Ask Yoast: 301 or 302 redirect?
You’ve deleted a post or page. Of course you know that you’re not done yet though! You’ll have to create a redirect, to avoid that visitors will land on your 404 page. Perhaps your site has a page that shows the information that you’ve just deleted, or something similar. So you want to create a redirect. But which one should you use? A 301 or 302 redirect? That’s what this Ask Yoast is about!
At firstname.lastname@example.org we received this question:
“When should one use a 301 redirect and in which case should it be a 302?”

Use a 301 or 302 redirect?
Read the transcript here:
“The answer is very simple. You should never use a 301 redirect if you ever want to use that url again. So if you’re redirecting one url to another and you’re sure that the old url is never going to be used again, it’s a 301. If you’re not sure, it’s a 302. That’s it. Good luck!”
